For the rest of Term 2, AEU members will participate in a ban on writing written report comments.

We are doing this because our best work happens in the classroom, but we are overloaded by additional work that too often happens at nights and on weekends. We need better staffing and support in schools to ease this load.

This action will apply in a different way to different schools. This is because we do not have consistency across the system. The AEU has been advocating for better consistency so that school leaders do not have to make every single administrative decision on behalf of the EDU.

Here is what the action will look like for your school:

• If your school already does not do written report comments, there will be no change.

• If your school does do written report comments, they will not continue for the remainder of term 2.

Formal reports will still be produced, just without written comments.

Educators will be speaking publicly with parents and the community about the realities facing ACT public education and the current bargaining dispute.

This includes conversations about:

• excessive workloads

• teacher shortages

• increasing violence and complexity in schools

• unsustainable class sizes

• the growing pressures facing students and staff.

Educators at your child’s school may hand out leaflets with more information. Digital versions of these materials may be found on the resources page.

Members are encouraged to wear red or AEU merchandise every Friday throughout the campaign.

These visibility actions are a simple but powerful way to demonstrate solidarity in every school and workplace across the ACT.

We encourage members to take workplace photos, show solidarity with colleagues and help build momentum across the campaign.

Members are encouraged to share photos on social media, tagging @aeu_act on instagram with #aeuact

Members are encouraged to embed campaign messaging into their work email signatures.

This action helps ensure families and the broader community are consistently seeing our message and understanding why educators are standing together.

Educators may undertake targeted work stoppages during visits by ACT Labor MLAs to schools and workplaces.

These actions will occur when MLAs attend schools or education settings as part of official visits, announcements or events.

On Friday 22 May, educators across the ACT will participate in a two-hour stop work action from 8:30am to 10:30am.

Members will meet at Ainslie Football Club, 52 Wakefield Avenue, Ainslie.

This stop work will demonstrate the collective strength of educators across the ACT. It is the clearest expression of our unity and resolve.

We will also be using this meeting to consider our next steps.

Our protected action only runs until 10:30am. It is important that members are at their school/workplace ready to start the workday at 10:30am. We will finish our meeting early enough to allow for this.
